Terry G Responds to Comparisons with Portable, Calls It Disrespectful

Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has strongly expressed his displeasure over comparisons between him and controversial artist Portable. The eccentric musician, known for his unique style and energetic performances, took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to voice his frustration, calling such comparisons disrespectful.

In his post, Terry G wrote: "In this craze business, please never compare original to photocopy because una mind go dey very soon." This statement clearly reflected his belief in the originality of his music and persona, emphasizing that his impact on the music industry is far more significant and lasting than that of the emerging star, Portable.

The post came in response to a tweet from a follower who suggested that those who had previously compared Terry G's eccentric style to Portable’s should now apologize. Terry G responded by reinforcing his point about the unique contributions he has made to Nigerian music, and how comparisons to anyone else, especially Portable, do not do justice to his influence.

Terry G went further to clarify that while both he and Portable may share a certain "crazy" disposition in their music, this does not make them comparable in any meaningful way. The singer explained that his style is deeply rooted in the Nigerian music scene and has been impactful over the years, with many of his songs still being relevant and widely appreciated by listeners.

In a previous interview with Punch, Terry G elaborated on his stance. He acknowledged Portable's individuality but made it clear that musically and intellectually, they are worlds apart. Terry G has always been known for his high-energy, unpredictable approach to music, which has helped him carve out a distinct niche in the industry. He emphasized that his contributions to the "craze" genre of music were foundational, and as such, he deserves recognition for pioneering that style.

Terry G's firm stance against such comparisons speaks to his pride in his work and his belief in the authenticity of his craft. He wants his fans and the general public to recognize the depth of his musical journey, which spans several years, and not undermine it by drawing parallels with newer, less established artists. His message is clear: no one can take away the originality of his music.

In conclusion, Terry G’s message to his fans is not only about protecting his legacy but also about reinforcing the notion that originality in music is key. While Portable may have his own unique style, Terry G will not allow his career to be trivialized by unfounded comparisons. He has made an undeniable mark in the music industry, and he wants the world to remember that.
