In a gripping courtroom testimony, Chidinma Ojukwu — the prime suspect in the murder of Super TV CEO, Michael Ataga — revealed chilling details of how she discovered his lifeless body in a Lekki short-let apartment on June 15, 2021.
The former University of Lagos Mass Communication student stood trial before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the Lagos High Court, facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and theft, alongside co-defendants Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu.
Chidinma recounted that after stepping out to buy food and juice, she returned to the apartment and knocked, but got no response. Pushing the door open, she was shocked to see blood splattered on the floor and Ataga lying lifeless in a pool of it.
> “I dropped everything and rushed to him. His eyes were half-shut and he had no pulse,” she told the court.
She went on to narrate how her relationship with Ataga began back in November 2020 through a mutual friend named Fiyin, who was dating Ataga’s close friend, James. Describing him as a kind and supportive figure, Chidinma revealed Ataga had helped her pay her tuition and also supported her cosmetics business, Unseal Zone International, located on Murtala Mohammed Way, Lagos.
Chidinma also painted a personal picture of Ataga, stating he was from Edo State, worked in the media industry, and had three children with his estranged wife, who lived in Abuja.
On June 13, 2021, Chidinma recalled receiving a call from Ataga while preparing a meal at home. He told her about his upcoming birthday celebration and invited her to spend time with him before heading to Abuja to celebrate with his family.
Since his VGC residence was under renovation, Ataga opted for a short-let apartment. Although Chidinma couldn't find a suitable place at first, Ataga later sent her the address of an apartment at 19 Adewale Street, off Ologolo Road, Lekki.
Arriving at the apartment around 6 p.m., she was received by a man named Abu, who introduced himself in a Northern accent and showed her the space. Once Ataga arrived, they went to Ango Villa restaurant for dinner and later picked up takeout.
This courtroom confession has added another twist to the high-profile murder case that has gripped the attention of the Nigerian public. As the trial continues, many are eagerly awaiting further revelations about the events that unfolded inside that Lekki apartment.
